  Biography :

Being an exceptional singer and a brilliant composer, Bartolomé Maximiliano Moré (Santa Isabel de las Lajas, 1919 - Havana, 1963) is one of the most important artists in the history of Cuban music.A self-taught person, he arrived in Havana in 1940, guitar at the ready, and began singing on the streets and in coffee-shops. He made his debut with the Cauto Septet at the Mil Diez Broadcasting Station where he had the opportunity of replacing Miguel Matamoros in his Ensemble. He remained singing with this ensemble for a whole year until 1945 when he traveled to Mexico to start his career as soloist and try his luck.
He rapidly succeeded in Mexico after creating the "ghost duet" with singer Lalo Montané. He recorded with Mariano Mercerón`s Orchestra for the RCA Victor and, afterwards, joined Pérez Prado with whom he made successful tours and recorded countless records.
He returned to Havana in 1950 determined to establish his own group. So the Banda Gigante was born making its first presentation in August 1953. As director of this Band he was known as "The bárbaro del ritmo" and his impressive sonority traveled throughout Cuba. He made several international tours to Venezuela, Colombia, Panama and Mexico, among other countries, where he was resoundingly successful.
Today we still hear about the musical geniality of Benny, his musicality, his brilliant ear, his transparent character and his contagious dedication. His rhythmic precision, his wide vocal pitch, the quality of his melodious and unique tone left an indelible imprint still alive in our memory and all Cuban fans enjoy remembering some of his songs or anecdotes.
