Adalberto Álvarez, National Award of Cuban Music 2008
"The Son Gentleman" of Cuba, renowned in all the world as the composer of international songs like  "A Bayamo en coche", "Y qué tú quieres que te den", "Para bailar casino", "Mi Linda Habanera"  and "Gozando en La Habana", has just gained the National Cuban Music Prize 2008.

Adalberto Álvarez (November 22, 1948) is also an important arranger and pianist. He became famous as the director of the popular orchestra "Son 14" founded in 1978, in the historical city of Santiago de Cuba. In 1984 he decided to create his own group, "Adalberto Álvarez y su Son", leaving outstanding contributions to the Cuban music and keeping the Cuban Son in the preference of the dancers all over the world.

Founded in 1997, the Prize is granted to the best cuban musicians. Adalberto, receving the Prize, expressed the proud to be be part of the select list of those Cuban musicians, who have obtained the reward till now, such as, Pablo Milanés, Rosita Fornés, Frank Fernández, Omara Portuondo, Leo Brouwer, Juan Formell, Silvio Rodríguez, Luis Carbonell, Marta Valdés, Celina González, Harold Gramatges, Digna Guerra, Noel Nicola, César Portillo and Chucho Valdés.

Adalberto  declared that the Prize comes to him in a very creative moment and it represents the focus of his career this year.
