Juan Manuel Villi

Biography

Singer.

Juan Manuel Villi Carbonell, very well known in the artistic world as Benny Billy, was born in the beautiful city of Santiago de Cuba, and he is the voice of the 42 songs we hear in the famous Cuban film El Benny, because he owns a great voice that reminds the tone of the magnificent Benny Moré.

Since he was a child, he used to sing with his father in public places. He was the voice of Mario Patterson´s jazz band and travelled around the island. He started to sing on a program called Trinchera Agraria on CMKC station and later visited Spain with the Quinteto Lahera.

Villi has recorded the album Para que se forme el molote with Los Taínos and travelled to London for promoting a CD released with the English company Line 1. Cándido Fabré, the charismatic Cuban musician, also invited Villi for recording the hit La chica quiere cha cha chá.

If you visit Santiago de Cuba, you can find Juan Manuel Villi, Benny, singing in the most popular c orners and squares, because he is probably the last Cuban bohemian.
