Ariel Barreiros

Biographie

Troubadour. Ariel Barreiros Rouco was born in Aguada de Pasajeros, Cienfuegos province, on July 7, 1971.  Since 1990, he is member of the Saíz Brothers Association, an organization whose primary interest is to promote the work of the main trova projects throughout the country.
Ariel Barreiros is already considered one of the indispensable young singer-songwriters of the new generation of Cuban troubadours since his creative work is different from the rest of his contemporary colleagues.  He incorporates his own contextual experiences and the tenderness of his native town where, according to Ariel himself, "life is peaceful, people are kind, almost everything is love..."
He has taken his art across the country and has participated in many festivals and events such as the "Longina" held in Villa Clara province, and the "Romerías de Mayo" in Holguín.  Likewise, he has offered concerts at important theaters in the country, like the "Amadeo Roldán" theater, and has shared the stage with most of the troubadours of his own generation and with others from different generations.
Ariel Barreiros has managed to convene an informal group at the Aguada de Pasajeros Museum who meets regularly and crowds the hall to listen to his songs and witness his multidisciplinary approach, for Ariel combines the trova art with exhibits that constitute a marvelous example of community work. Ariel Barreiros was part of "La estrella de Cuba" project made up by a group of young poets and singers who toured across the island during the bicentennial celebrations of the Cuban poet José María Heredia.  This project resulted in a book and a CD where, besides Ariel, other troubadours like Eduardo Sosa, Pavel Poveda and Fernando Bécker are also included.  Likewise, he also participated in the Trov@nónima.cu record which groups young representatives of this genre and was edited by the BIS Music label.
His authorial work includes prominent themes like "Mientras mi novia y yo", "Amame" and "Niña" which evidence his marvelous composition.  Ariel Barreiros, spokesman of his time, claims that his social function lies in writing songs "with more love".
