Lucía Huergo was born on November 17, 1951 in Havana. She began her professional career performing with the orchestra led by Octavio Sánchez "Cotán". Later on, she joined the prestigious Franco Laganá`s group. When she was 17 years old she began making her first arrangements, some of them under the guidance of Master Adolfo Guzmán.
Lucía Huergo is considered the pioneer of the Afro-Cuban music with a new sonority successfully developed by her together with Carlos Alfonso and his Síntesis group. The first outcome of this work, included in the "Ancestros" record, was granted the EGREM "Golden Syncope" Great Award in 1989. "Mereguo", totally composed by Lucía Huergo, was awarded during the Benny Moré Festival in 1987. Later on, she continued dignifying the Afro-Cuban music with modern timbres together with Lázaro Ross and the Mezcla group led by Pablo Menéndez.
She has performed in European and Latin American countries and has shared the stage with Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Fito Páez, Feliciano and many others.
She has been meritorious as orchestrator, producer, interpreter and composer within the Cuban recording sphere and has written music for radio, television, theater and the filming industry. Her work has been acknowledged with many awards and supported by commendable reports by the most strict critic.
Lucía Huergo is one of the most talented Cuban musicians. She has been placed within the creative elite for her endless sonorous wealth and her capacity to enhance the music born from her inventiveness and her hands.
