Quinteto Fantasía

Biography

String quintet.

Founded by Master Alberto García Alfonso in 1989 in Matanzas province, the Fantasía Quintet -- integrated by talented and greatly experienced musicians (violin, viola, violoncello, double bass and clarinet) -- is one of the most outstanding chamber groups, acclaimed in Cuba and abroad.

Professor Alberto García, its conductor, has conducted almost all the symphonic groups of the country and, between 1991 and 1994, he worked as musical conductor of the Bellini Theater in Naples, Italy.

The Fantasía Quintet performs a vast repertoire of Cuban and international music, made up by more than two hundred pieces covering works from J.S. Bach to a wide range of Cuban music, and including the best of classic and romantic composers. Each piece performed by the Quintet is characterized by its musical arrangement aimed at achieving a magnificent balance among instruments, using interpretative resources which offer a greater sono rous, rhythmic and harmonic variety to enhance the resulting musical sound and to evidence the great technical potentialities of these musicians.

The Quintet´s international career has been very active and highly praised by the most diverse and demanding audiences in the United States, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean.

The specialized critic has always noticed the high professional level of its members. Suffice it to say that they graduated from the most renowned Cuban music academies and that they have integrated chamber groups, Symphonic Orchestras like that of Matanzas, as well as concert bands. Some of them have worked as professors for years, while sharing the scenario with outstanding Cuban and foreign musicians.
