Anabell López

Biography

Anabell López is, irrefutably, one of the most exquisite singers in Cuba.
During her childhood she was surrounded by music and, since a very early age, she was in close contact with the greatest representatives of the Cuban New Trova, namely, Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés, Vicente Feliú, Noel Nicola, Sara González and Amaury Pérez.
When she was eight years old, she began studying music at the Alejandro García Caturla Conservatory, specially classic guitar and complementary piano.  When she was ten years old, she joined of a children"s group led by professor Leopoldina Núñez with whom she sang in different theaters.  She made her first professional performance accompanied by her guitar in the popular television program "Para Bailar" when she was only fifteen years old.
She also studied performing arts and dance at the National School of Art.
In 1982, she began her recording career with her first phonogram entitled "Anabell", accompanied by a talented group of pop ular music.  Afterwards, she recorded "En el jardín de la noche", as a tribute to Cuban singers and composers Silvio Rodríguez and Pablo Milanés, accompanied by musicians from the National Symphonic Orchestra and Pablo´s musicians.  Her third pop rock record entitled "Ave Anabell" was made in collaboration with the Monte de Espuma group.
Her CD entitled "Milagros" is a true gem of confidant songs from outstanding composers such as Carlos Gardel and Silvio Rodríguez also including two of her songs, all of them accompanied to the piano by Master Frank Fernández.
But her voice has also been recorded in many of the Cuban New Trova and traditional trova anthologies.  She has recorded Afro-Cuban songs and has collaborated with record productions such as "Aves dentro" by Alberto Tosca; "Arboles" by Roy Brown; "Rabo de Nube", "Tríptico" and "Domínguez" by her brother Silvio Rodríguez; with Amaury Pérez and many others.
During her career, she has been associated with different communication and artistic media like, for example, the cinematography.  Suffice it to remember her interpretations for the Cuban film "Cabinda" as well as for "Fotos de Alma" by Diego Musiak, the Argentinean filmmaker, both films with music by Silvio Rodríguez.
Likewise, the television has also favored her work, since she has composed and sang for Cuban soap operas and for children.  On the radio, her songs have become a letter of introduction for many popular programs.
Her international career has been very prolific for she has participated in tours and festivals in Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Czechoslovakia, the United States, Poland, Puerto Rico, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Bulgaria and many other countries.
Anabell López displays a voice with remarkable register and timbre that allow her to cover genres like the trova, the pop and even the blues thus highlighting her great musicality and good taste.
Anabell, a gifted singer with an extraordinary sensitivity defines beauty as "music, artistic creation, maternity, love... all in all, life itself" and the main purpose of her singing is to communicate emotions in the broadest sense of the word.
