Composer and interpreter of music for children.
Rosa María Campo Pérez was born on September 19th, 1957 in Sancti Spíritus province.
She began her artistic career as troubadour in 1971 and has been a genuine follower of the best Cuban musical tradition for the New Trova.
She has participated in festivals of amateur artists and creative festivals associated with music for children, since Rosa Campo is a tireless composer and promoter of musical works for the smaller ones. Her community work with children has deserved the highest acknowledgement and acclaim.
Several generations of Cuban children have grown up listening to her songs and incorporating the valuable messages implicit in her music. "Amanecer feliz", "Rocío", "Músico seré", "Fiesta de alados", "Reyes de Son" and many others are within the preference of both children and adults in Cuba.
Her broad
and fruitful work has created artistic, social and cultural values in a number of generations. She has worked with children choirs. She has been engaged in teaching activities and has also organized and implemented cultural activities in many institutions and neighborhoods in Cienfuegos where she is currently living.
She has headed several children"s projects as, for example, "Los Chicuelos del Mar", "Trocacuentos", "El rincón de la tía Rosa", the "Amanecer Feliz" radio program and the "Parampampín" television program.
She has received different and significant awards, namely, the Unique Interpretation Award at the Eusebio Delfín Contest in 1996; awards at the "Cantándole al Sol" Children"s Festivals for seven consecutive years; Composing Awards granted by the Union of Cuban Artists and Writers, by the National Center of Community Culture, by the National Music Museum and by the Cuban Radio and Television. In the year 2000 she received the Cubadisco Award to the best children"s music phonogram with her CD "Amanecer Feliz" edited by the Cuban label, BIS Music.
In the year 2001, for her social and cultural endeavors, she was granted the "El Reparador de Sueños" and "Los Zapaticos de Rosa", the highest acknowledgements awarded in Cuba to those who devote their life to cultivate the best childhood values.
Rosa Campo is a symbol of both the Cienfuegos and Cuban culture and she has been granted the National Culture Award.
