Realengo was created in 1995, and was made up by five young graduates from music schools in Cuba: Susana Martínez (keyboard, programming and voice), José Luis González (guitar, minor percussion and voice), Liliana Rodríguez (flute and voice), Ramón Díaz (guitar and tres) and Abraham Mansfarroll (percussion).
Its music stands out as the main creation of its members. Significant has been the contribution of José Luis González, as author of most of the themes performed and popularized by Realengo, under the concept of what they themselves called "festive music" based on the Cuban musical tradition with harmonic and contemporary-style instrumental elements.
Catchy guarachas as "Ay, Pepe", "Malos ojos", "El compay" and "Fábula" or sones like "Para Nochebuena", rescued the preference of younger generations for these genres performed by the Realengo group and historically recorded in the CD "Producto nacional", edited by the Cuban BIS Music label.
A distinctive characteristic of its
work was its excellent music with texts plagued with Creole good sense of humor.
Though the professional life of this group was relatively short, it left an important mark in sonority at the end of the 1990s, and its members nurtured other groups as the well-known "Juego de manos", highly acclaimed at national and international levels.
