Cuban Music towards Germany, in Munich’s Cubamemucho festival (17-21 March 2010)As well as Los Van Van and Havana d’Primera, Los Munequitos de Matanzas have confirmed their presence in the next “Cubamemucho Festival” which will take place in Munich, Germany, from March 17 to March 21 2010. Los Munequitos de Matanza will be performing on the 18th of March, at 7.30 pm. At the end of 2002, Los munequitos published the album “Rumba de Corazòn” to celebrate their 50th anniversary. “Rumba de Corazòn” was nominated as the best folk album at the Latin Grammy Awards in 2003. The great rumba band was founded in 1952 in Ciudad de Matanzas and was originally called “Guaguancò Matancero”. Art director Diosdado Ramos transformed the ensemble in a unique group of both musicians (Rumba, Yoruba, Abakuà, and Brìcamo) and dancers (Afro and Cuban). In the last two decades Los Munquitos have achieved great success taking their music and dance throughout many countries such as Spain, Italy, Switzerland and Germany in Europe, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Mexico and Colombia in Latin America as well as Canada and U.S.A. where they have performed several tours lasting over 10 weeks, from New York to San Francisco receiving enthusiastic reviews by the New York Times. Their growing fame made them share stage with some of the most famous Latin artists like Celia Cruz, Chucho Valdes, Omara Portuondo, Tito Puente, Gilberto Santarosa and Willy Colón. |
