Biography

Ireno García was born on September 29, 1954. He studied music at the "Alejandro García Caturla" Conservatory. In 1979 he became member of the New Trova Movement.
As a remarkable composer, he has developed an embracing and beautiful work. This singer-composer, besides having a wide range of wonderful pieces, has also participated together with Mike Pourcel in the piece entitled "En busca de una nueva flor" which served as main theme at the 11th World Festival of Youth and Students held in Havana in 1978, thus including his name among the greatest representatives of the Cuban trova.  Themes like "A dónde iré a parar", "Un buen bolero", "Canción para recordar a María", "Andar La Habana" or "Sueño no más" constitute genuine classic songs during the last decades. He has also composed music for movies, television, theater and dance.
His songs has been interpreted by prestigious Cuban voices, namely Xiomara Laugart, Silvio Rodríguez, Anabell López and Arte Vivo, and many of them ar e included in the repertoire and discography at national and international levels. He has performed in a number a countries and has received many distinctions and awards, both in Cuba and abroad.
His records include the CD entitled "Ireno García canta a Eliseo Diego" based on the work of this great Cuban poet. This phonogram received the Cubadisco Award.
He also has close links with plastic arts as has been proved with the Dibujar canciones exhibit held at Pablo de la Torriente Brau Cultural Center where Niurka Iñurrieta´s and Ireno Garcia´s works were displayed. Aside from his career as musician, he has also worked as illustrator. Ireno has also cooperated as drawer in magazines and publications from different countries.
This troubadour is engaged in preserving the best Cuban songs with tender and witty melodies and texts enrich the human spirit.
