Edesio Alejandro

Biography

Composer, arranger, musical producer and singer.

Edesio Alejandro, one of the most prodigal young Cuban composers with a highly creative range, was born in Havana. He showed a talent for music at an early age and studied classical guitar and composition.
He first embarked on the electroacoustic music which won him the first acknowledgement for his work as creator.
His work covers almost every sphere of musical creation, from classical music to songs and dancing popular music using both traditional and avant-garde composing techniques.
He is already an expert musical composer for films, since he is the author of the sound track of more than 40 films, among which the most outstanding ones are "Clandestinos", "Hacerse el sueco", "Kleines Tropicana", "Madagascar", "Bailando chachachá", "Suite Habana" and "Perfecto amor equivocado". He has also created the music for documentary films and cartoons, for plays, musicals, television serials and different shows. His music has allowed him to enter into the opera rock and ballet world.
Likewise, Edesio Alejandro has been producer, arranger and musical director of countless record productions.
He has a passion for Cuban music with very contemporary colors and that is why he has become the creator of a very rich sound produced by merging Cuban traditional music with rap, hip-hop and funk, that he himself has called "Son ácido" ("Acid son"). The greatest influence of this unique sonority comes from black music, from the African music to the American blues.
His most internationally acclaimed record productions recently are those made together with veteran singer Adriano Rodríguez, beginning with the CD entitled "CoraSon de Son", produced by Edesio Alejandro. He was also in charge of the arrangements for some of the greatest interpreters of Cuban traditional music such as Arsenio Rodríguez, Ignacio Piñeiro, Compay Segundo, Félix Chappotín and Sindo Garay performing the classical music with an unusual harmony.
Later on, they recorded together the CD entitled "Cubatronix", where he composed all themes and made the orchestration. This phonogram includes the spirit of traditional music, specially the Cuban son, with electronic sonorities.
When the "Music Bridge" event was held in Havana, Edesio Alejandro sang the cha cha chá "Vacilón feeling good" in a duet with Gladys Knight.
Edesio Alejandro is one of the most modern faces of Cuban music and has received world fame as composer for his original sound that preserves the vitality and the heart of tradition.
