Cuban Traditional Music Quintet.
Quinteto Rebelde was founded on May 14,1958, at the Sierra Maestra, with the purpose of reviving the nights of the Rebellious Army fighting at that time in the mountains of the eastern region of Cuba to overthrow the tyranny in power. Besides participating in the Radio Rebelde broadcastings at that time, their first members also took part in important combats for the definite freedom of their country.
The Quintet popularized songs such as Respeto al Ché Guevara, Soy Fidelista and La Lupe.
Its format includes guitar, tres, requinto, marímbula and minor percussion, and is an excellent representative of ryhtms like the "guaracha" and the "guajira".
During more than 45 years, the Quinteto Rebelde has continued interpreting its songs everywhere in the Sierra Maestra, preserving the family nature of the group and cultivating the best themes of the traditional music of the eastern region of Cuba.
