Lázaro García

Lázaro García

Biography

Composer and singer.
Lázaro García was born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, where he lives now.  From an early age, he associated with the artistic life and led a youth group of dancing popular music known as Los Jaguares, which was the starting point for what was later the first group of the New Trova Movement in his native city.
In Santa Clara, he founded the "Nueva Trova" (New Trova) group and, later on, in Cienfuegos, the "Septiembre 5" groups until he finally decided to follow the steps of the "thinking song" promoted by the New Trova Movement.  He was a tireless organizer of this Movement throughout the central region of the island.
Lázaro García has performed in American, European and African countries.
His work is mainly influenced by the feeling and the Cuban traditional trova, musical trends highlighted by the intrinsic poetry contained in the songs he composes.  Pieces like "Si de tanto soñarte", "Carretón", "Siempre será el amor" and "Teniendo un rostro en l a canción" have placed him in a privileged position among the best Ibero-American composers.
Lázaro García, already consecrated in the Cuban music field, is constantly supporting and encouraging young troubadours in his country.  He has recently worked intensely as Director of the "Eusebio Delfín" Recording Studio in Cienfuegos and as musical producer.
As Vicente Feliú, the Cuban troubadour, has said, "Undoubtedly, Lázaro García is every inch a troubadour, one who knows where he comes from "the navel- where he goes "the infinite- and who has cultivated friendship, with the song and beyond the song".
Lázaro García has spent almost 40 years of his life singing to all of us.  Because those who have the great gift of writing songs, besides composing them for their personal pleasure, since the very moment these songs are known, lose their primary identity to become the backbone of our taste, our love and our hope.
