Ignacio R. Cervantes, also known in the Cuban world as “El Chispa” for his constant activity as musician and creator. Descendant of the talented Cuban pianist and composer Ignacio Cervantes Kawanagh, “El Chispa” introduces himself as orchestra director, multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger and music producer. He studied at the Centro Nacional de la Música Ignacio Cervantes in Havana, where he obtains Technical and Professional Education of Medium-High Level graduation for bass guitar. In September 1998 El Chispa decides to fund his own orchestra “Chispa y Los Cómplices”, officially debuting on February 27, 1999 at the Salón Rosado “Benny Moré“ de La Tropical. His artistic spirit was striving for a project that would allow him to present his own production, therefore the orchestra came out quite natural. Making use of all his professional experience, El Chispa channels through his orchestra all that contemporary popular Cuban danceable music means to him. The orchestra shifts betwe en various genres such as jazz, nueva trova, pop, balada, son and salsa, sharing the stage with famous musicians and interpreters from Cuba and the whole world, among which: Oscar de León, Chucho Valdez, Pucho López, Juan Pablo Torres, Elena Burke and Rojitas. The orchestra has been very active on international stages, participating in festivals in Europe, Latin America and Canada. It features a remarkable repertory spacing through a wide range of genres and styles of popular danceable music, among which Jazz stands out for the dedication and passion of the director.
