Biografie

Víctor López Jorrín was born in 1956 in Placetas, Villa Clara province. When he was four years old and until fourteen years old he studied music under the guidance of his father. He learnt several instruments like, for example, piano, guitar and double bass.

In 1970, he began his professional career as arranger and pianist in "Los Fakires" rock group performing at international stages like Spain, Portugal, Czechoslovakia and Germany. In 1975, while serving his military duty, he joined the General Staff Military Band as saxophonist and orchestrator of said band. In 1979, he received the UNEAC Award granted to young interpreters with a work composed for piano and orchestra.

Later on, he was included in the roster of the well-known Irakere group and, in 1981, he joined the jazz and Cuban music "Raíces Nuevas" group as pianist, arranger and director. Together with this group he participated in the Jazz Plaza Festival sharing the stage with musicians of t he stature of Dizzie Gillespi. Likewise, he also participated at international events held in Germany and Nicaragua.

His work as recording producer of singers and instrumentalists began its consolidation since 1984.

Later on, he founded his own orchestra with a broad repertoire of jazz and Cuban dancing popular music and toured across Spain, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, Germany, England, Canada, Colombia and Venezuela, among many other countries, where he performed together with prominent musicians like Chico Freeman, Chick Corea and Chucho Valdés.

Pucho López has also worked as musical director of singer-songwriter Augusto Enríquez and as arranger of countless singers for which he was granted several awards, namely, OTI National Contest, Viña del Mar Festival and Yamaha in Japan.
