Biographie

Poetess.
Carilda Oliver Labra was born in 1922. In 1945, she graduated as Law student at the University of Havana, and as drawing, painting and sculpture professor at the School of Plastic Arts in Matanzas Province.
In 1950, she was granted the National Poetry Award for his book entitled "Al sur de mi garganta".
Just one of her poems, "Me desordeno, amor, me desordeno" would have been enough to win fame and international prestige, but her work is quite extensive and incomparable, since she tackles themes such as love, family, poetry and death with sincerity, tenderness and audacity.
Her works include "Canto a Martí", 1950; "Memoria de la fiebre", 1958; "Desaparece el polvo", 1984; "Calzada de Titry 81", 1987; "Se me ha perdido un hombre", 1992; "Libreta de la recién casada", 1998; and "Prometida al fuego", 2002.
Her work has been included in both Cuban and foreign anthologies for she is the heir and true exponent of the best Cuban poetesses.
In 1997, Carilda Oliver L abra was granted the National Literature Award.
